The Brussels Contemporary Art Scene: a good name to defend

By Stilll Office

Vrijdag 2 september 2016 - 15:00 tot 16:30

BRUSSELS CREATIVE FORUM is a happening in BOZAR on 2 and 3 September 2016. It brings together all professionals from the Brussels art and creative scene. The Brussels creative partners are presenting their upcoming season, pitching new ideas and confront each other during constructive debates.

We would like to invite you for a debate on Friday the 2nd September about the Brussels Contemporary Art Scene. The art scene has a very good reputation on an international level. Our capital is often referred to as the 'new Berlin'. A moniker we like to embrace AND analyze during a debate about its future.

The dynamics in the Brussels Arts Scene has a bottom up logic mainly driven by galleries, non-profits and arts institutions. An interesting question is: how will we maintain this reputation? What are the strategies the players have in mind for the future? Can we learn something from cities like Berlin or New York? How does this dynamics evolve and can we control it in a way?

We like to invite:

as moderator:

Harlan Levy – gallery owner and committee member of the Brussels Gallery Weekend

guest speakers:

Liv Vaisberg – director of Independent Art Fair Brussels, initiator and director of POPPOSITIONS and Ponyhof

Zoë Gray – senior curator at Wiels, former curator at Witte De With, Rotterdam and Project manager at LUMA foundation, Arles

Alain Servais – Brussels art collector and key figure for the Brussels visual arts scene
